Timber was founded in 2016 by seasoned audio guys with the goal of creating high quality tools and services in 3D audio. We are passionate about music and sound and we decided to approach things as if we were a music group, devoted to enjoying the trip and playing only the gigs we liked. Though this initial plan has not always worked out... we gave it a go!
Timber 3D has its' headquarters in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and consists of 3 core members, Jordi Alba, Peter Bakker and Daniel Talma…
…is an experienced entrepreneur and hands-on producer who is effective at bringing projects from concept to reality.
Peter’s reputation in the audio engineering world is second to none.
Daniel is one of the most experienced and highly regarded 3D sound engineers in the world.
University degrees in Media and Communication from Emerson College (Boston), and as a Technician Specialist in image and sound from Institut tecnológic Verge lde la Mercè (Barcelona), led Jordi to a 20-year career in film and game production. Jordi’s American client roster includes New Velocity Media, MGM as Executive Producer for several interactive projects, such as Stargate and with Nickleodeon Animation Studios he recently produced the St. Patrick’s Day holiday special, "Lucky," which is the first Nickelodeon product to utilize Timber 3D technology, delivering surround sound on stereo devices.
Jordi is in charge of international business development for Timber, logs air miles accordingly, and as the link between the technical and creative sides of things, is always on the lookout for interesting and innovative projects to dive into.
When at home with his wife and three sons, Jordi sets the rythm of the household as a drummer, and then enjoys hitting the road on his motorcycle—choosing the slowest route in order to really enjoy the trip.
After studying Music Technology at Utrecht/Hilversum (NL) where he specialized in DSP programming and graduated cum laude (with distinction), Peter co-founded Audio Ease, a company that developed several state-of-the-art audio programs used widely in both the music and film industries: Barbabatch, Rocket Science, Nautilus, Snapper, and the company’s most well-known product, Altiverb — still considered to be one of the best convolution reverbs on the market.
Peter’s reputation in the audio engineering world is extensive, with a wide list of clients and commercial commercial success (available upon request). For the musical ‘Soldaat van Oranje’—a show that has been running for more than 5 years now—he built a custom reverb engine with 14 separate outputs capable of real-time switching between different acoustic environments for a stunning, live audio show.
When Peter is not programming the next Timber 3D innovation, you can find him cycling around the Netherlands or playing the guitar.
First studied Electronics followed by Music Technology in Utrecht/Hilversum (NL) where he specialised in sound engineering. After his studies he started a company that built and supported digital media studios.
As his career matured, Daniel focused on sound engineering for music, film and video production and founded a post/editing/mixing studio.
He is equally passionate about sound as the underlying technologies.
He worked for an impressive roster of international productions and clients including, among others: Channel News Asia, Grand Central Studios, Jardon Post Production, Small Island Films, Aurora, National Geographic and Take Two Productions.
When Daniel is not conducting experiments in the audio labs at Timber 3D, he plays the upright bass in his trio ‘Unheard Music Concepts'.
